2017 Coca Cola 600 Results – May 28, 2017

2017 Coca Cola 600 Results from Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 28, 2017

Sunday turned into Monday during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600, and it was worth the wait for Austin Dillon.

The Richard Childress Racing driver made a late-race fuel gamble pay off, saving just enough to win his first Monster Energy Series race on fumes and putting the iconic No. 3 back in Victory Lane.

Sunday was Dillon’s first points-paying race with new crew chief Justin Alexander following the departure of Richard “Slugger” Labbe.

Kyle Busch finished second, followed by Martin Truex Jr. — who led 233 laps — in third, Matt Kenseth in fourth and Denny Hamlin in fifth.

The race was red-flagged for 1 hour, 39 minutes and 56 seconds in the middle of Stage 2 due to inclement weather, with lightning near the track forcing a stoppage, then heavy rains necessitating a much longer break.

Front-runners Chase Elliott and Brad Keselowski were wiped out from contention just 20 laps in on a weird wreck, with Elliott hitting a piece of debris and damaging his No. 24 Chevrolet, and Keselowski sliding through fluid and rear-ending the slowed Elliott under caution.

Next up for the Monster Energy Series is the AAA 400 Drive for Autism at Dover International Speedway (June 4, 1 p.m. ET, FS1). It’s the first of two races this season on the 1-mile concrete oval, and the 13th of 36th races in 2017.
