That Subway NASCAR sponsorship was a continuation from the previous driver, Carl Edwards. As Daniel Suarez surprising stepped into the seat, Subway remained on board.
Now, they have suddenly bailed on their sponsorship agreement. One race remained in the 2017 season, but they have elected to terminate, ahead of schedule. They will use only three of the four planned races of the racecar placement.
“Due to circumstances beyond our control, Subway had to terminate its sponsorship of Daniel Suarez,” stated a JGR representative told Bob Pockross.
A letter was sent to Joe Gibbs Racing confirming the abrupt termination.
“That is nothing in my control and there’s not a lot I can do about it,” Suarez told Jeff Gluck and Pockrass at Darlington Raceway.
Did Suarez do something wrong?
“I don’t really know. Like I said, I just found out yesterday — and on a race weekend, I don’t really have time to think about that. I have to think about the race,” stated Suarez.
“That’s part of racing,” Suarez stated. “Sponsorship comes and sponsorship leaves. There’s nothing we can do about it. I don’t really know the reasons, so there’s not a lot I can add to it.”
Daniel Suarez was excited to be a representative of Subway at the start of the season. Subway even went to the lengths of using the NASCAR Cup Series driver in one of their national commercials.
“I’m extremely grateful to Subway for their continuing sponsorship of our Joe Gibbs Racing team this year,” Suarez said in a February release. “I enjoy eating healthy, and Subway has always been my go-to choice to refuel my body when I’m on the road or at home. I’m looking forward to a great 2017 season in the Subway Toyota Camry.”
Daniel Suarez is in his debut NASCAR season. In 24 races thus far Suarez has collected 8 top ten finishes. He has a best finish of 6th, which he claimed twice. The first came at Dover International Speedway and the second time came at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
