FRR owner says #77 team likely to shut down

Furniture Row Racing owner: “There is no way we can run it without sponsorship, so we’re going to have to put it down.”

Back in August, Barney Visser stated he might be forced to shut down #77 operations.

That’s a big deal. Teammate Martin Truex Jr just clinched the regular season championship in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. You can officially call them the fastest team in the garage area, at this point.

Yet, the sister car is struggling for sponsorship. Furniture Row Racing might be reduced to just a single car team in the 2018 season.

So, are there any updates on that front?

“Right now, we don’t have a sponsor lined up for the 77,” Visser told Kickin’ The Tires.

“There is no way we can run it without sponsorship, so we’re going to have to put it down.”

“It’s tough, it’s tough to take. We had a lot of people move out to Colorado and they are either going to be happy when they are leaving or they are not leaving. We are either going to make them happy or they are not going to leave they are going to stay with us.”

Visser stated that the team might be required to shut the team down at the end of the 2017 season. Sponsorship pending.

However, even if that happens, he doesn’t intend for it to be a permanent thing.

Erik Jones will debut Furniture Row Racing at the end of the 2017 season. He will take on his intended duty at Joe Gibbs Racing.

As Matt Kenseth has announced his separation from the team, Jones will fill the empty seat. Erik Jones has been on a temporary lease to FRR.
