Josef Newgarden has interest in running a NASCAR race
“You know, I’d love to,” stated Josef Newgarden to Sirius XM NASCAR Radio on running a NASCAR race.
Listen to the audio below.
“I get a kick out of the NASCAR stuff. I think it’s so fascinating because it’s so different, to me.”
Newgarden comes from an open-wheel background. From Karting to INDYCAR.
“It’s not my background. To me, that’s very exciting. It’s something new to learn about. Something to try and master. I would love to get an opportunity to go over there.”
Josef Newgarden fields a Team Penske racecar in the Verizon INDYCAR Series. His owner is already set. The opportunity is likely already there, sponsorship pending.

“There’s a couple guys that talk about dabbling, doing the double. That’s even something that id love to try and do in the future.”
The double? The Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 are both run in the same day. The last NASCAR driver to run both races was Kurt Busch.
“I can’t get ahead of myself. Roger, he hired me to drive Indycar’s. And to do will in their INDYCAR program and represent that.”
“I think if we continue to do that down the road… I’m hoping I can twist his arm and get him to put me in some of the NASCAR stuff at some point.
Josef Newgarden claimed his first 2017 INDYCAR Series championship over the weekend at Sonoma Raceway.
