“It was great,” Dale Earnhardt Jr tells NBC Sports.
“That cars been over at the museum, ever since I started coming here as a little kid. Dad got that car after he won the championship in ’80.”
“It sat in the backyard of Mema’s house. On jack stands, with no suspension or nothing. He talked about restoring it.”
“Finally around ’85, he restored it. They took it to Talladega Superspeedway and it’s been sitting here ever since.”
“So, it’s great to have a chance to take the car about the track. And to just kinda see the perspective, from outside the cockpit of what those guys had back then.”
“I’m gunna take it home and park it in the garage. Amy says, ‘It ain’t going anywhere else!’ ”
“So, I’m gunna put it in the garage. I might work on it a little bit, tune up the carburetor and get it running a little bit better. So, it’s just going to sit over at the house for awhile, I guess.”
