NASCAR team owner Richard Childress encouraged Austin Dillon to retaliate on Alex Bowman
Alex Bowman wanted to shove a ‘silver spoon’ up Austin Dillon’s ass
On Saturday night, NASCAR visited the 0.75-mile short track of Richmond Raceway. It brought some drama…
On Lap 111, Alex Bowman went to the yellow line on the inside into turn one. He took Austin Dillon, Paul Menard and William Byron four wide into turn one.
Dillon pinched him a little to make the pass difficult. Bowman kept his nose in there.
But, the awkward angle into the corner wasn’t going to work. Bowman made contact with the left rear of Austin Dillon into turn one.
Dillon was pushed up the banking and into William Byron. Both cars had minor damage.
Austin Dillon encouraged by team for retaliation
Austin Dillon was then highly encouraged to engage in a retaliation attempt.
Richard Childress (#3 car owner): “Get his ass back if you get to it.”
Danny Stockman (#3 crew chief): “Get him back.”
Dillon caught the rear bumper of Alex Bowman laps later.
Kevin Hamlin (#3 spotter): He’s going to dive it down in there. And there you go.”
He drove it deep into the corner and turned Alex Bowman. Yet, Dillon clipped Bowman on his way under the spinning car and collected right front nose damage.
After the retaliation…
Alex Bowman: “I wanna shove that silver spoon he’s been fed on his whole life, up his ass.”
Later in the race, the team was working on the setup of the now mangled car. With driver feedback Dillon stated, “I don’t have a good idea for you. We ruined our car in a wreck for no reason. I didn’t think we needed to do that.”
Alex Bowman is one of 16 drivers eligible for the NASCAR Championship. After Richmond, he sits 13th in the standings. He’s on the bubble of being eliminated in round one which concludes this weekend at The Roval.
