Penalty pending as Tyler Erb drove backwards on the race track to retaliate on Bobby Pierce
The World of Outlaws Late Model Series has just concluded a three-day show at Cedar Lake Speedway. The USA Nationals saw a 100-lap main event pay $50,000 to the race winner.
At the start of the main event, Pierce missed the 10 minute call. He was forced to start the feature from the tail.
With 14 laps to go, Bobby Pierce was looking for 5th from Tyler Erb.
Pierce was knocking on the cushion, scraping the wall and putting on a show. Erb was tip toeing around the moisture that was left on the bottom.
For several laps, Pierce had a run that was stalled as Erb swung out to the wall and took the line away off the corners. Pierce was getting as close to his bumper as possible at corner entry in an attempt to get to his right rear off the corner.
Pierce had the momentum off the top. As they entered turn three, Pierce drove under the fuel cell of Erb. They made light contact and Erb went around.
The caution was deployed for Erb’s spin.
Under caution, Erb coasted around in search of Pierce. Pierce gassed it to escape. When he circled back around, Erb was going backwards on the track.
Pierce came to a stop in the middle of the track. Erb had him locked in a scope.
Erb then slowly rolled to the nose of Pierce. As he got there, he then stood on the gas. Nose to nose, Erb did a burnout as he climbed the front of Pierce.
Bob Pierce, father of Bobby Pierce, ran onto the track in the heat of the action. He then started yelling in the window of Tyler Erb. A World of Outlaws official also came to the scene.
Tyler Erb backed up and knocked the official to the ground in the process.
World of Outlaws penalties
Erb was immediately disqualified from Cedar Lake Speedway and pointed to the infield. He climbed from his car, pulled off his helmet and began arguing with an official.
A World of Outlaws official then reached into the cockpit and removed the steering wheel from the No. 1 car. A tow truck was hooked up to the machine and they towed it to the pit area.
Erb gave a smile to the grandstands on his way out of the race track. He was then reported to be escorted from the race track.
Pierce was also disqualified. Drivers are responsible for their crew members at all times. As Bob Pierce ran onto the race track, he was in violation.
Further penalties are likely pending.
