Daytona 500 Results: February 14, 2021 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR race results from Daytona International Speedway

It’s the biggest race of the year. We’re set for the green flag on the Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The NASCAR Cup Series will take to the 2.5-mile track of Daytona International Speedway for 500 miles.

Three new teams are on the grid in 2021. 23XI Racing (Bubba Wallace), Trackhouse Racing (Daniel Suarez) and Live Fast Motorsports (BJ McLeod) are set for the Daytona 500.

Bubba Wallace was scheduled to start 6th in his debut with the team. However, the team failed pre-race inspection twice and will be sent to the back for the start.

William Byron was scheduled to start from the front row. However, following a crash in his Duel race, the team unloaded a backup car. Byron will join the tail for the start.

Alex Bowman and Kevin Harvick set the front row. 200 laps of superspeedway racing are up next…

Daytona
Stage 1 – Report

Laps: (1-65 / 200)

Green, Alex Bowman gets the jump and he begins blocking both lanes.

Lap 2, Harvick powers to the lead on the inside.

Lap 4, Derrike Cope has blown a tire and found the wall after a blown tire. The caution is out.

Green, Harvick leads into turn one. Ryan Newman sidedrafts him off turn two and Newman leads into turn three.

Lap 14, big crash toward the front of the field! Christopher Bell gets into the back of Almirola in a bumpdraft. Almirola gets turned across the track into Alex Bowman. Ryan Newman, Martin Truex Jr, William Byron, Erik Jones, Ryan Blaney, Chris Buescher, Anthony Alfredo, Daniel Suarez, Jamie McMurray, Tyler Reddick, Kurt Busch, Matt DiBenedetto and more are involved.

Lap 15, the red flag is out for lightning in the area. Soon after, the rain is here and we’re heading into an extended delay.

Near 6 hours later…

We’re set to restart this event as a night race. The field hits the pit lane. Many return during a lengthy caution to refuel. Chase Elliott and Austin Dillon set the front row.

Green, Dillon and Elliott run side by side. Dillon wins the battle early.

Lap 32, Hamlin leads a run from the outside lane. He clears Dillon and Hamlin takes the lead.

Lap 38, Quin Houff and Chase Briscoe crash as Houff losses a tire. The caution is out.

Green, Hamlin leads and they form single file around the top in a hurry.

2 laps to go in stage one, they remain single file at the front.

1 to go in stage one, the front five cars all dive to the inside lane into turn one. Hamlin blocks them all.

Denny Hamlin wins stage 1 in the Daytona 500!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: (66-130 / 200)

Green flag on stage two, Hamlin and cindric run door to door into turn one. Cindric noses ahead on the outside lane with a push from Logano.

Hamlin quickly returns to the lead as Cindric gets shuffled out. Christopher Bell has a run on the bottom, he clears Hamlin and takes the lead.

Lap 76, the field runs single file around the top. Joe Gibbs Racing holds 1st, 2nd and 3rd as Bell leads.

Lap 104, the Fords hit the pit lane.

Lap 107, Christopher Bell leads the Toyota group to the pit lane. There’s only four of them left.

Lap 109, the Chevrolet camp hits the pit lane.

Lap 110, Toyota wins the green flag pit battle as Denny Hamlin cycles back to the race lead. Harvick takes over 2nd.

Lap 111, Christopher Bell cuts a left rear tire. He spins and collects Ricky Stenhouse Jr who then clips Kyle Larson. The caution is out.

Restart

Green, Hamlin and Logano run side by side. Harvick takes them three wide, puts Hamlin in the middle and Harvick takes the race lead.

Lap 119, Bubba Wallace locks onto the rear bumper of Hamlin and pushes him back to the lead.

2 laps remain in stage two, the field runs single file around the top as Hamlin leads.

1 to go in stage two, Keselowski drops to the bottom and leads a train. Bubba Wallace drops down to catch the train. Wallace takes the lead on the inside.

Hamlin fights back with a push from Harvick off turn four. Denny Hamlin wins stage two in the Dayton 500!

Daytona
Stage 3 – Report

Laps: (130-200 / 200)

The field hits the pit lane. Dillon wins the race to the pit exit, Hamlin 2nd.

Pit Penalty: Larson has been handed a pit penalty for a safety violation. The team was using a torch to repair minimal damage.

Green flag on stage three, Dillon is clear into turn one but Hamlin has a run and looks to his outside off turn two. Hamlin clears him and leads into turn three.

50 to go, the field runs single file around the outside lane. Hamlin leads Harvick and Logano.

Pit cycle

31 to go, the Ford camp heads for the pit lane, led by Kevin Harvick.

30 to go, Chase Elliott leads the Chevrolets to the pit lane.

28 to go, Hamlin leads the other Toyotas to the pit lane.

26 to go, Hamlin, Busch and Wallace and spaced out at the pit exit. The Fords are lined up and they drive right by, Logano takes the lead as the Toyotas grab the back of the draft.

Loose wheel for Bubba Wallace, he returns to the pit lane under green.

10 to go, the top 15 cars run single file around the top. A storm is brewing.

3 to go, the field remains single file around the top.

2 to go, Brad Keselowski drives to the bottom lane in turn three. Logano blocks and holds the lead.

1 to go, Michael gives a shove to Keselowski and Keselowski looks to the inside. Logano blocks and they both crash!

Kyle Busch slams into the scene and multiple cars are torn up. Keselowski hits the fence pole and the entire rearend has been ripped out of it. The caution is out before they reach the line.
