NASCAR disqualifies Las Vegas runner-up

Zane Smith was in a battle to win the race in the closing lap at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Earlier this week, Front Row Motorsports suffered from three four-race suspensions in the NASCAR Cup Series. The penalty stemmed from a wheel that fell off at Auto Club Speedway. On Wednesday, the team announced they’re appealing the penalty.

On Friday night, the NASCAR Truck Series unloaded in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 1.5-mile of Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosted the second race of the NCWTS season.

Zane Smith raced with Chandler Smith and Kyle Busch is a thrilling final laps shootout. As they traded sliders for the race win, it was all for not.

Zane Smith suffered a penalty after post-race technical inspection. The No. 38 entry is from the NASCAR Truck Series portion of the Front Row Motorsports stable. The same team that appealed a separate wheel issue relating to their NASCAR Cup Series team.

After the Truck race, 2nd place finisher Zane Smith was disqualified. He’s been regulated to last (36th).

Zane Smith commented after the race

“I had a lot of fun right there. That was some hard, good racing,” Zane Smith told Fox Sports after the race.

“I can’t believe I’m up here, with all that damage. Just wait until this thing’s clean. So close, to back-to-back.”

He later added via twitter, “Eventful night to say the least. Hate finishing 2nd but man we were fast and that was a fun battle for the win. Excited for this year. P2.”
