NASCAR Penalty Report: June 2022 (Sonoma Raceway)

Multiple NASCAR crew members suspended after Sonoma Raceway

Over the weekend, NASCAR visited Sonoma Raceway in California. The race saw Daniel Suarez visit victory lane, his first career win.

After the win, Daniel Suarez brought a pinata to the front stretch to celebrate his victory. In the tv interview, he accidentally dropped an f-bomb. In years past, that has brought a fine from NASCAR. However, NASCAR has long removed that policy and Suarez will not be penalized.

Kyle Larson started the race from the pole position and looked to have the dominant car. However, the driver exited the pit lane and lost a wheel heading into turn two after the pit stop.

The loss of a wheel has been common this season as NASCAR has switched to a single lug nut. However, it also brings one of the steepest penalties in the sport. Three crew members on the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team are suspended for the next four events.

Additionally, Rick Ware Racing has also been hit with a major penalty. The team failed inspection so many times that a rare points penalty has been issued.
