Six penalties issued; Four NASCAR members suspended

Last weekend, Nashville Superspeedway hosted a triple-header weekend. The 1.333-mile welcomes the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Truck Series.

Directly after a pit stop in the final stage of the NASCAR Cup Series race, Chris Buescher had a wheel come off his machine. The No. 17 team becomes the latest in a string of penalties relating to wheels falling off. At the start of the season, NASCAR went to a single lug nut wheel. However, the violation brings one of the more hefty penalties in the rule book.

Following the race weekend, six different penalties have been issued. Four NASCAR members have been suspended for various violations…

Driver: No. 17 Chris Buescher

Violation Date: June 26, 2022

Sections: (10.5.2.6) Loss or separation of an improperly installed tire/wheel from the vehicle with the note: Loss of tire/wheel during the event.

Penalty: Crew chief Scott Graves and crew members Seth Gajdorus (rear tire changer) and Matthew Wilps (jack) are suspended for the next four races.

Penalty: Crew chief ( Alex Bird ) has been fined $5,000.

Driver: No 10 Landon Cassill

Infraction Date: June 25, 2022 (Post-Race)

Infraction: Sections 10.9.10.4 – Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty: Crew chief ( Bruce Schlicker ) has been fined $5,000.

Driver: No 31 Myatt Snider

Infraction Date: June 25, 2022 (Post-Race)

Level: Safety

Infraction: Sections 10.9.10.4 – Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty: Crew chief ( Bruce Schlicker ) has been fined $5,000.

Driver: No 44 Ryan Ellis

Infraction Date: June 25, 2022 (Post-Race)

Level: Safety

Infraction: Sections 10.9.10.4 – Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty: Crew chief ( Michael Brandt ) has been fined $5,000.

Other Penalties

Tony Waters has been suspended indefinitely follow a violation of NASCAR’s substance abuse policy. Water was previously listed as the hauler driver for the No. 4 Kyle Busch Motorsports team.
