NASCAR handed out a disqualification for the race winner. It was the first time a Cup winner was disqualified since 2019.

Additionally, runner-up finisher Kyle Busch was also given a DQ for the same violation. Both cars are out of the Joe Gibbs Racing stable.

Chase Elliott who crossed the line in 3rd was declared the official race winner.

However, Hamlin was already on the flight home after the penalty announcement. He already had the trophy and the champagne from the event.

On Monday, Hamlin opened that champagne. He posted a 30 second video as he drank the bottle with what appears to be a leftover meal.

He posted the video with the caption, “Live on EBay. 1 tainted trophy and 1 used bottle of champagne.”

The mouth of the eagle trophy had a piece of tape hanging from it’s mouth.

Hamlin explained, “That would be a a piece of clear tape worth about 300k. (Not to be included in sale).”

Chase Elliott is the rightful owner of the Pocono Raceway trophy. He’s the official winner of the race.

However, Elliott has little interest…

“I hadn’t really even thought about it,” Elliott said Monday morning.

“Honestly, if he wants to keep it, he can keep it as far as I’m concerned. He crossed the finish line first. I haven’t really thought about that. That’s a great question.”

Elliott concluded, “I didn’t really feel like I earned it on track yesterday. If he wants to keep it, then I’m good with that, I’m not going to ask for it.”

Elliott now has four race wins in 2022. He leads the point standings as the playoffs near.
