Team Penske appeals NASCAR penalty on Ryan Blaney

Ryan Blaney’s team was handed three suspensions after Bristol Motor Speedway

On Saturday, Bristol Motor Speedway hosted the final race in the Round of 16. 4 drivers were eliminated from the playoffs following the event. Ryan Blaney is one of the drivers to advance.

However, the race didn’t go without headaches for the No. 12 team.

On lap 93, Blaney hit the pit lane with a flat tire. He left his pit box but then a tire rolled off the car. Blaney returned to his pit stall as the tire rolled down the pit lane.

The issues became greater for the team as the car was broken due to the tire going flat. The team was forced to take the car behind the wall for several hundred laps. Blaney eventually rejoined the race following repairs.

Ryan Blaney: No. 12 team penalized

On Tuesday, NASCAR released their weekly penalty report. Blaney and the No. 12 became the latest to get handed a major penalty for the loss of a wheel during competition.

Penalty: Crew chief Jonathan Hassler, crew members Graham Stoddard and Zachary Price are suspended for the next four races.

However, on Friday Team Penske posted notice that they intend to appeal the penalty. Per the rules, the penalty is now deferred. All three crew members will be allowed to attend the race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The appeal will be heard next week.

If the penalty stands then the suspension will begin in the wildcard race at Talladega Superspeedway. The suspension continues at Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
