Former NASCAR driver to make political run for Senate

Hermie Sadler is entering the race

Hermie Sadler is a former NASCAR driver. At age 53, he’s is set to write a new chapter in his life with an attempt to run for Senate.

The driver was born in Emporia, Virginia. He now operates multiple business in the area.

“Southside Virginia is my home – and like many of you, I want my children to have the same blessings of a free and prosperous life that my family built here in small town Emporia for themselves and their children,” his new website reads.

“I am a businessman, sportsman, advocate, husband, and father – not a politician. I believe it will take no-nonsense outsiders with real-world business experience to deliver for Virginians.”

“This is why I am stepping out of the stands and entering the race to earn your trust and fight for our communities in Richmond as your State Senator.”

“We can’t let this opportunity pass by to have more focus and attention put on areas in and around Southside Virginia, because in my view this area has been underrepresented in the Senate for way too long,” Sadler stated via Cardinal News.

The Virginia native currently operates two convenience stores, a NASCAR themed restaurant as well as a truck stop in the area. With his sister, they own Sadler Brothers Oil Company.

He noted that his number one issue is inflation. He noted that lowering taxes would be his solution to the issue.

Sadler is seeking the republican nomination for the newly formed 17th district of Virginia. Sadler made the announcement on Wednesday and noted he’s already raised $125,000.

Emily Brewer, R-Suffolk announced back in January that she’s also making a run as a republican for the 17th district seat. Additionally, Democrat Clinton Jenkins announced in April that he’s also running for the new District 17 seat.

The former driver running as a republican isn’t a shock.

“Well I’m a former NASCAR driver, and I’m in the petroleum business, and I sued Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam and [Attorney General] Mark Herring, so you tell me,” told WAVY.

Sadler has run 66 NASCAR Cup Series races with the most recent coming in 2018. He’s also tallied 266 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts where he collected 2 race wins with his most recent Xfinity start was back in 2019.
