Christian Lundgaard and Scott McLaughlin set the front row. 85 laps of open wheel racing are up next…
Green, Lundgaard gets the jump. McLaughlin throws a block to hold 2nd. Multiple cars stack up deeper in the field, the track is blocked and the caution is out. Jack Harvey, Tom Blomqvist, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Benjamin Pedersen are done for the day.
Green, Lundgaard leads McLaughlin and O’Ward into turn one.
Lap 15, Lundgaard leads McLaughlin by 3.5 seconds. Lungaard is on the softer tires, McLaughlin is running harder tires.
Lap 19, Lundgaard pits from the race lead. Lungaard exits the pit lane with a lot of traffic ahead.
Lap 37, Lungaard cycles back to the lead. McLaughlin trails by 6 seconds and now he’s on the softer tire.
Lap 42, Romain Grosjean is in the turn 10 wall! The caution is out. Grosjean said on the radio that the wheel slipped out of his hands.
Kirkwood, Herta and others pit for fuel.
Green, Helio Castroneves is around off the front bumper of Kyle Kirkwood and the caution is out.
Penalty: Kirkwood will serve a stop and go penalty.
Lundgaard, O’Ward and most of the leaders dive to the pit lane. McLaughlin stays out. Lundgaard will restart in 7th but he could be good on fuel to the end.
Green, McLaughlin leads Scott Dixon and Rinus VeeKay.
Lap 53, Lungaard dives inside of Colton Herta for 5th into turn 5.
Lap 61, McLaughlin pits from the race lead.
Lap 62, Palou has a damaged front wing and he blocks the inside lane. Lungaard looks to the outside of Palou for 2nd. He takes it away with a pass on the outside.
Lap 63, Dixon pits from the race lead. Lundgaard cycles back to the race lead.
5 to go, Lungaard leads Palou by 10 seconds.
1 to go, Power and Ericsson hit the pit lane for fuel!
