NASCAR community mourns after the passing of Sherry Pollex
Sherry Pollex rallied the NASCAR community behind a cause, fighting cancer. On Sunday, she passed away from the disease after battling it since 2014.
Pollex was 44 year old.
She founded Catwalk for a Cause, an annual charity event featuring many NASCAR drivers. Since 2010, the event has raised $4 million.
The most recent event was held on Wednesday. Pollex was unable to attend.
She was the longtime girlfriend of champion driver Martin Truex Jr. However, the couple announced their separation earlier this year.
Sherry Pollex family statement
It is with great sorrow that our beloved daughter, sister Sherry quietly passed away on the morning of Sunday, September 17,” the Pollex family statement opened.
“Although there are no words to express our sadness, we take solace in the fact that Sherry is no longer suffering and has been taken back in the arms of the lord.”
It continued: “As we all know, Sherry lived her life to the fullest, influencing thousands, if not millions of people through her own personal journey.”
“Her love for her family, Catwalk kids who she adored, and her friends will last forever,” the statement added.
“Please join our family in thanking God for giving us Sherry, she’s such an incredible expression of love that will live on.”
The family statement concluded, “We will continue her legacy of love and caring for those in need as she will always be alive in our hearts.”
Martin Truex Jr comments
“From the very minute of her diagnosis, Sherry was determined to not only fight ovarian cancer with everything she had, but also make a difference in the lives of other battling this terrible disease,” Martin Truex Jr commented.
“Sherry’s passion for making a difference in the lives of others was inspiring to everyone. Through her tireless charity work for so many years, her legacy will live well beyond our lifetimes and continue to help countless families who are battling ovarian and childhood cancer.”
“I would like to extend my deepest condolences to her entire family, who have shown incredible strength and resilience throughout her battle.”

NASCAR statement
NASCAR issued the following statement:
“NASCAR is saddened to learn of the passing of Sherry Pollex, whose fight against cancer and determination to help others through the Sherry Strong Foundation was an inspiration to all who knew here.”
They added, “NASCAR and the NASCAR Foundation’s thought and prayers are with Sherry’s family and friends.”
