Kyle Larson says that NASCAR racecars are too loud

The NASCAR noise level discussion resurfaces

The sounds of NASCAR is a unique element to the fan experience in comparison to other sports. Noise is built into the attraction of attending an event.

Over the last decade, the cars have gotten louder. And, for years, there’s been a debate on if the cars have become too loud.

At the LA Coliseum and Chicago Street Course, NASCAR racecars are fitted with mufflers. These are designed to lower sound decibels in high the highly populated areas.

In the test session at Phoenix Raceway, NASCAR ran new ductwork to aid with cooling when the muffler is installed.

Kyle Larson took part in the recent test. He was asked to comment on the noise of the car.

“I haven’t felt, really, a heat difference,” Kyle Larson stated at the test

I could definitely tell a sound difference, which I like.”

“I definitely think our race cars are way too loud — and probably are still too loud with the mufflers.”

He added, “I think the cars could be quieter to help the fan experience.”
