NASCAR driver is cleared to return for 2024 season
On April 3, a woman called 9-1-1 in an alleged domestic dispute. NASCAR Cup Series driver Cody Ware was charged.
On April 10 Cody Ware was arrested in Iredell County, North Carolina. He faced a felony charge for assault by strangulation in addition to a misdemeanor assault on a woman.
NASCAR driver arrested; Suspended indefinitely
After posting bond of $3,000. Ware was arrested again and more changes of assault inflicting serious injury and communicating threats were added. His new bond was set at $5,000.
NASCAR elected to suspended Ware from competition.
Rick Ware Racing brought in Ryan Newman to fill the No. 51 car in select races. Matt Crafton, Zane Smith, JJ Yeley, Todd Gilliland, Andy Lally and Cole Custer also drove the truck.

Rick Ware Racing and Cody Ware filed lawsuits
Cody is the son of NASCAR team owner Rick Ware.
Both Cody Ware and Rick Ware Racing opened lawsuits against his former girlfriend of Ware. Their suits claimed she made false statements to police with intent to harm Ware and the NASCAR team.
In the lawsuit, Rick Ware Racing noted loses of $3.5 million in sponsorship following the arrest. Biohaven was signed through 2024 but exited the team after the arrest.
Additionally, RWR claimed they spent $300,000 hiring drivers to fill in during Cody’s suspension.

Cody Ware comments as charges are dropped
Last week, all charges against Cody Ware were dropped. Dismissal filings indicate that prosecutors were unable to proceed with their case as neither side would provide testimony.
Now, NASCAR has lifted their suspension of the driver.
“I’ve maintained my innocence from the very beginning, even as there was a rush to judgment by others,” Ware said in a statement.
“I’m glad this entire matter is behind me because it’s been an incredibly difficult eight months.”With all of the allegations being dismissed, I’m thankful to have my life back.”
