Rolex 24 safety car crash sends two to hospital

The crash took place at Daytona International Speedway on the morning of the Rolex 24

The crash took place at Daytona International Speedway prior to the start of the famed Rolex 24. The safety car was pacing the Heritage Exhibition field on Saturday morning.

The safety car was a BMW. It appears that it hit the wall during the exhibition.

Heritage Exhibition features former Rolex 24 cars. 

The airbags in the BMW were deployed in the crash. Two people have since been transported to a local hospital.

The incident took place on the backstretch chicane.

Daytona International Speedway statement

Daytona International Speedway posted the following update since the crash:

“Following an incident exiting the backstretch chicane during today’s CHRA, LLC Heritage Exhibition laps, two individuals were transported to an area medical facility for further evaluation.”

The statement concluded, “The incident will be reviewed by CHRA, LLC and Daytona International Speedway.”

The Rolex 24 began on Saturday afternoon. The event will run for 24 hours, concluding Sunday afternoon.
