With 14 laps to go, Ryan Blaney pulled off the bottom lane. William Byron went to block, Blaney moved back to his inside. This left Byron with a loss of momentum and stuck on the outside lane.

Brad Keselowski was on the bumper of Kyle Busch and the two of them closed on Byron in a hurry. Busch attempted to lift but Keselowski was pushing him.

Busch got into the bumper of Byron. Byron was sent spinning across the track, catching Blaney in the right rear.

Blaney was hooked across the track. He made heavy contact with the outside wall. Multiple cars were collected in the incident.

This marks the second year in a row that Blaney was hooked into the outside wall during his Duel race.

Ryan Blaney comments

“I saw the replay, it looks like a terrible push, once again,” Ryan Blaney told FOX Sports.

“It gets me right-reared into the wall. I don’t know who it was, who it stems from.”

“The No. 6 into the No. 8. and I get hooked. So, s*** pushes by people a few times in a row at Daytona and I got a wrecked racecar.”

“So, I’m getting pretty sick of getting right-reared by someone’s awful push. It’s unfortunate, we gotta build a whole new 500 car.”

Blaney concluded, “Shame it’s ruined by someone else.”

Team Penske has already unloaded the backup car. The machine was unwrapped as most teams share a backup car across multiple drivers on the same team.

Kyle Busch comments

“I was getting a push a little bit from the No. 6 there,” Kyle Busch stated.

“The No. 24 kinda got messed up, out of line and slowed down. I tried to lift and roll out of the gas smoothly. I was still gaining too fast. Then, I got all the way out of the gas and got bumped again from behind.”

“Accordioned into the No. 24 and sent him spinning. You don’t want to hit a guy in the tri-oval. I’ve been there, I’ve done that. I’ve also rolled out of here in an ambulance doing that.”

“I know it’s not the right thing to do. But, sometimes you don’t have a choice.”

“Couldn’t really make any moves though. What a frustrating race just sitting in line, saving fuel. We were taking the momentum, which ever lane the momentum was coming.”

Busch concluded, “Yeah, just end up wrecked.”
