NASCAR fine pending as driver throws bumper at car (Video)

NASCAR driver Joey Gase throws his entire bumper cover at Dawson Cram under the caution at Richmond Raceway

On Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series unloaded in Richmond, Virginia. The short track of Richmond Raceway brought drama to the NASCAR race.

Watch the Joey Gase vs Dawson Cram video below.

With 78 laps to go in the 250 lap race, drama unfolded. Dawson Cram tagged Joey Gase in the bumper down the frontstretch.

Gase was sent sideways into turn one. He went for a spin, backing it into the wall and making hard contact.

Gase climbed from his mangled machine. The rear bumper cover was near dislodged from the car. Gase grabbed it and tore it the rest of the way off then started walking down the banking.

As Cram rolled around under the caution, he was met with Gase who held his bumper cover above his head. Gase then tossed the bumper at the front windshield of Cram.

Brad Keselowski stated, “I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do. But, I’m saying, I understand.”

NASCAR collected the rear bumper and brought it to their hauler.

NASCAR tends to understand when emotions run high. However, there is a line and when that line is crossed, fines and penalties follow.

Any penalties will be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Dawson Cram: Team Radio

Dawson Cram’s team came over the radio to ask, “What happened with the No. 35 there Dawson?”

Cram responded, “He kinda crossed my nose on exit. I let him go at the start/finish line and he just started spinning. I only pushed him for like 2 seconds.”

The team responded, “Well it was two seconds too many.”

Joey Gase comments

Gase was checked and released from the infield care center.

“I think him just not having his head screwed on right,” Gase told Fox Sports about what led to the accident.

“I gave the kid his first opportunity ever in Xfinity. And, I know Johnny Davis isn’t in the business of wrecking racecars. And, we’re definitely not, we’re a small team racing hard for the lucky dog.”

“Apparently, he just didn’t know how to lift. Maybe his throttle stuck, I don’t know.”

Gase added via X, “Thanks @dawsoncram41 , hope you appreciate your souvenir.”
