NASCAR Penalty Report: Richmond Raceway (March 2024)

Four NASCAR penalties issued after Richmond Raceway; Joey Gase fined for throwing bumper at Dawson Cram

On Saturday, NASCAR visited Richmond Raceway. The Virginia short track brought drama between Dawson Cram and Joey Gase in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race.

Joey Gase was turned by Dawson Cram on the front stretch. Gase was sent backwards into turn one, making hard contact with the wall.

The rear bumper of the Gase machine was hanging on, barely. The driver took a look at his mangled car and then tore his own rear bumper off.

With the bumper cover lifted over his head, Gase began walking down the track. As Cram came around under caution, Gase tossed the bumper at Cram’s from windshield.

It was an epic moment that will surely be replayed for years to come.

This week, Gase stated via Sirius XM NASCAR Radio, “When you’re in the moment, sometimes things happen… Hopefully, there’s no penalties that come from it.”

However, NASCAR has issued a penalty to Gase following the incident. The driver has since posted an update.

Gase stated via X on Wednesday shortly after the penalty announcement, “Any bail bond companies want to sponsor this weekend!?”
