Ross Chastain spins Chase Elliott on lap 1 in the NASCAR race; Elliott suggests payback
Today, NASCAR Cup Series drivers are running their first road course race of the 2025 season. And, things are off to a rough start for Chase Elliott.

On lap 1, Ross Chastain drove it deep to the inside in turn one. He drove into Chase Elliott, turning him around.
Chase Elliott checked with his team to make sure he wasn’t at fault.
The driver jumped on the team radio, “Tell me if I totally screwed that up or if he jammed it in there on the first corner.”
No. 9 Team Radio: “No, you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just stupidity. But, we’re going to have to pay that (expletive) back because I’m over people like that. When we get a chance to send him, we’re sending that No. 1 car.”
Both drivers were able to continue after the contact. No caution was deployed for the incident.
Chase Elliott: “That’s totally fine. I’ll do what I need to do. But, I just need to make sure I wasn’t in the wrong before I do it.”
The team added, “No. There’s no point in ruining our race on lap 1. That’s just dumb.”
It appears Elliott has plans of payback.
Update: At the end of stage one, the No. 9 Team made suspension repairs on the left rear. The driver noted a possible bent toe link over the radio.
