Canadian racing driver denied re-entry into the United States

Ricky Weiss returned home to Canada to visit his ill Grandpa; He was denied re-entry into the United States

Ricky Weiss is a dirt late model driver from Headingley, MB, Canada. He currently races with the Hunt The Front Series and sits 3rd in the championship standings, just 18 points behind Zack Mitchell.

Recently, Weiss ran the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway in Ohio. During that race weekend in early June he was notified that his Grandpa was ill.

Weiss elected to return to Canada to visit his family. While attempting to re-enter the United States, he was stopped at the border due to a paperwork issue.

Tonight, Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series is racing at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Kentucky. Weiss will not be in the field.

Ricky Weiss comments

“This post is so hard for me, but I wanted to let my fans, friends and sponsors know what has happened the last couple of weeks,” Ricky Weiss opened via social media.

“While I was in Eldora, I received an emergency call from my mom, that my Grandpa was critically ill. I booked the next flight to Winnipeg, as I needed to be with my family at this time.”

“I got to spend some very special time with my grandpa, he was awake and happy to see me. Unfortunately, he passed away the next day.”

“I stayed in Winnipeg for another week as it was a heartbreaking time for my family and I needed to be with them.”

“After my grandpas memorial service, I felt it was time to get back to Tennessee and focus on the Hunt the Front series race coming up.”

“I thought if I could win the championship it would be a wonderful tribute to my Grandpa.”

“Unfortunately, when I went to fly back to Tennessee, I was denied access back into the USA. With the heightened security at the borders right now, I require extra paperwork that I had not needed in the past.”

“I am working with my immigration lawyer on the paperwork, but it takes time.”

The driver added, “I’d like to apologize to my sponsors, fans and all of my supporters during this difficult time.”

Weiss is a former winner of the North/South 100.
