Watch the video as Wallace and Bowman bang fenders for a full lap, ending in a crash
On Sunday, NASCAR rolled into Downtown Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Street Race brought drama in the closing laps between familiar foes.
NASCAR is currently running a five race in-season tournament. With the In-Season Challenge two drivers are matched against each other with only the highest finisher advancing into next week.
Alex Bowman and Bubba Wallace were matched against each other in Chicago. With just 6 laps to go, they were racing for 7th.
They rubbed doors and fenders as they fought for the position. Wallace shoved Bowman into the wall. The contact continued for a full lap, corner after corner.
However, exiting turn two, Wallace drove it deep to the bottom, nearly clearing Bowman. Yet, Bowman hung on his left rear. Wallace was hooked and he spun across the track, slamming the inside wall.

Alex Bowman comments after contact with Bubba Wallace in Chicago
“I thought we had squashed our beef but clearly we have not,” Alex Bowman told Jeff Gluck after the race.
“He ran me into the inside wall in turn eight. Still felt like I passed him clean. Then he absolutely demolished me into twelve.”
“I gave it back a little bit into turn one. Then, he launched me again into turn two, ran me in the outside wall. I’m just a pinball between him and the outside wall at that point.”
“Certainly not trying to crash anybody. I’d have to watch it back to be certain but I’m pretty sure he did it to himself.”
“The In-Season Tournament means a lot. But, at that point, I’m just trying to get the best finish I can, I wasn’t really thinking about that. I don’t know if that’s what it was about or what.”
“When you’re at that big of a tire disadvantage. I don’t know why you just continually try to wreck a guy that’s on fresher tires.”
“I’d be curious to talk to him. He walked by and didn’t want to talk.”
He’s just not clear. Like, I don’t have anywhere to go, we’re going straight,” Bowman later told TNT Sports.

Alex Bowman and Bubba Wallace have a history
These two drivers have had multiple on-track incidents over previous seasons.
Just last season, Bowman drove to the win at this very track in Chicago. However, the action wasn’t over. After crossing the finish line, Wallace turned hard into the side of Bowman.

And that wasn’t their first altercation. Back in 2019, Wallace and Bowman tangled on the Charlotte ROVAL. After the race, Wallace tossed liquid all over Bowman as he sat on the pit lane next to his car.
