After winning on the Chicago Street Course, Alex Bowman was crashed by Bubba Wallace
Update: Bubba Wallace penalized after crashing NASCAR winner Alex Bowman
On Sunday, NASCAR raced on the Chicago Street Course. It was the second race in the streets of Downtown Chicago, Illinois.

For the second year in a row, rain played a major role in the race. Late in the race, many of the leaders pitted for slick tires.
The track was still wet but it was drying. Alex Bowman was one of the cars that elected to stay out on wet weather tires.
Bowman was able to hold off a final lap charge from Tyler Reddick. Bowman picked up his first win since the 2022 season.

Bubba Wallace vs Alex Bowman
At the start of stage two, Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman battled inside the top 5. Bowman missed the corner and turned Wallace into the tire barrier.
No caution was thrown and Wallace lost all his track position.
During the rain delay, Bowman attempted to call Wallace, with no answer. So, he sent him a text.
After the checkered flag, Wallace caught up to Bowman. After pulling alongside, Wallace turned hard left into the side of Bowman in retaliation of the earlier incident.
Both cars had their window nets down at the time. Bowman made significant contact with the concrete wall.
The two drivers have a bit of a history dating back to the 2019 season. After the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Bubba Wallace approached Alex Bowman and tossed liquid on him as Bowman was resting on the ground by his car.

Alex Bowman apologizes to Bubba Wallace
“Like we talked earlier, I have to apologize to the No. 23 guys,” Alex Bowman stated after winning the race.
“I messed up. Trying to get my windshield wiper on, missed the corner and ruined their day. I hate that, I’m still embarrassed about it.”
“But, we have a trophy to take home!”
“I broke my back, had a brain injury and we’ve kinda sucked ever since. You kinda second guess if you’re ever going to get a chance to win a race again.
“We’re going to drink so much bourbon tonight. It’s going to be a bad deal. I’m probably going to wake up naked on the bathroom floor, again. That’s just part of this deal sometimes.”
Bowman added
“I’d be mad too. I ruined his day,” Bowman added from the media center.
“The restart was chaotic. I just made every wrong decision I possibly could. And, I was fighting with my windshield wiper switch, trying to get the thing working.”
“I was focused on that, missed the corner and cleaned him out. Locked all four tires up and slid right into him.”
“I’m pretty hard on myself when I make mistakes like that. The rain delay was a lot of me just sitting there being embarrassed and mad at myself.”
“I tried to call him during the rain delay and I shot him a text. Nothing I can do to make it better. I’m sure us winning probably only makes it worse.”
“Bubba and I, we had our deal a long time ago. But, even today, we raced the hell out of each other but we gave each other a lot of space. It was really fun racing with him.”

“He like barely hit me, everything was fine and it was plenty deserved,” Bowman said of the contact after the finish.
Any penalties to Wallace would be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday in NASCAR’s weekly penalty report.
