Kyle Larson will race in the Knoxville Nationals despite NASCAR conflict

NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson will race on Thursday night of the Knoxville Nationals

This coming week Knoxville Raceway will host the biggest dirt sprint car race of the season. Saturday’s Knoxville Nationals feature will pay $200,000 to the race winner.

Kyle Larson has raced the event every year since 2016. He’s won the event in three of the last five years.

However, this year there’s an unfortunate scheduling conflict. The NASCAR Cup Series is racing on Saturday night at Richmond Raceway in a direct conflict with the Knoxville Nationals main event.

Despite that, Larson is still going to run the Thursday prelim of the event. He’ll also be racing on Monday at Southern Iowa Speedway.

There’s a slim chance Larson will get a chance to run the Nationals. But, there is a chance…

“No, it’s just an opportunity to race,” Kyle Larson told Matt Weaver of him wishing for a rainout.

“We’re here in Iowa so we might as well race. And it pays well. The prelim night pays like $12,000 to win. Oskaloosa on Monday pays $21,000. If you lock into the [Knoxville Nationals] feature that’s $15,000 on top of that.”

“We’re just going to race. If it rains and it can work then great. But the odds of that happening don’t look great.”
