Today, NASCAR goes rain racing at the road course of Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York. The skies have opened and the Next Gen car will see its first race in the rain.

Chase Elliott leads the field to the flag stand. The rain tires are on as the track is soaked. 90 laps of stock car racing are up next..

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 20 (1-20 / 90)

Green flag, Ellott leads Larson into turn one on the single file start. McDowell works to the outside of Larson into turn two, McDowell takes 2nd away.

Lap 2, Austin Cindric spins Allmendinger into turn one. Corey LaJoie and Harrison Burton also spin into turn one.

Lap 4, McDowell has a run om Elliott out of turn one. He works to his outside into turn two, McDowell clears him to take the lead!

Lap 12, many drivers are pitting for slick tires. They’re significantly faster than those on wet tires.

Lap 13, McDowell pits from the lead. McDowell exits the pit lane with Briscoe on his bumper. Briscoe drives inside of McDowell into the bus stop.

Lap 14, Reddick exits the pits ahead of Briscoe but he throws a major block into the bus stop. He misses the chicane and Reddick is forced to come to a complete stop. Briscoe cycles back to the lead.

Lap 19, McDowell and Buescher head for the pit lane. It’s fuel only for McDowell.

Pit Penalty: Austin Cindric is caught speeding.

Chase Briscoe wins stage one at WGI!

Laps: 20 (21-40 / 90)

Strategies: McDowell, Elliott and Buescher are on a 2-stop strategy. Everyone else is running a three-stop race.

Briscoe pits for fuel only and many others join him. Todd Gilliland and Joey Logano take over the front row.

Green flag on stage two, Gilliland clears Logano into turn one. Kyle Busch takes McDowell and Ty Dillon three wide into the bus stop for 3rd.

Lap 28, Gilliland has lost power with a mechanical failure! Logano takes over the lead with Kyle Busch all over his bumper.

Lap 32, Tyler Reddick and Mike Rockenfeller tangle in the bus stop. Both cars spin, no caution.

Joey Logano wins stage two at Watkins Glen International!

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 50 (41-90 / 90)

Logano leads most of the leaders to the pit lane. McDowell, Elliott and others stay out. Logano restarts 20th.

Pit Penalty: Kyle Busch drops to the rear as he pitted outside his box.

Green flag on stage three, McDowell leads Elliott into turn one but McDowell runs wide. Elliott looks to his inside and Joey Hand sticks his nose in there to make it three wide for the lead into turn two! McDowell holds them off.

Lap 45, Ross Chastain turns Austin Dillon in the bus stop. Kimi Raikkonen is collected and he slams the tire barrier, caution.

Green, McDowell leads Elliott off turn one.

Lap 49, McDowell gets loose in the carousel, Elliott has a run into turn six. Elliott to the lead as he out-brakes McDowell.

Lap 55

Lap 55, green flag pit stops are underway.

34 to go, McDowell and Larson pit from 2nd and 3rd.

32 to go, Elliott pits from the race lead.

26 to go, Briscoe puts the bumper to Ross Chastain as they roll into the bus stop. They both spin, no caution.

20 to go, Chase Elliott cycles back to the race lead. Larson trails by 1.9 seconds.

17 to go, Kyle Busch has spun off turn one.

12 to go

12 to go, Joey Hand is in the turn one tire barrier after spinning under braking. The caution is out.

Green with 9 to go, Elliott and Larson run side by side into turn one. Elliott noses ahead into turn three. AJ Allmendinger takes over 3rd.

8 to go, Loris Hezemans has backed it into the sand trap and he’s stuck. The caution is back out.

Green with 5 to go, Larson drives it deep and locks up the brakes into turn one! He runs Elliott wide and Larson takes over the lead. Allmendinger takes over 2nd and Logano moves into 3rd as Elliott struggles to get back in line.

3 to go, Larson leads Allmendinger by four car lengths. Allmendinger is quicker through the back section of the course as Larson is faster through turn 6, 7 and 1.

1 to go, Larson leads Allmendinger by six car lengths.
