Las Vegas Race Results: September 26, 2021 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR results from Las Vegas Motor Speedway; Round two of the NASCAR Playoffs

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series unloads in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 1.5-mile track of Las Vegas Motor Speedway is set to host the opening race in round two of the NASCAR Playoffs.

Playoff drivers Martin Truex Jr and William Byron failed pre-race tech two times. Per the rules, those drivers drop to the tail for the start of this race.

Kyle Larson leads the field to the starting line with Ryan Blaney completing the front row. 267 laps of stock car racing are up next…

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 80 (1-80 / 267)

Green flag, Blaney and Larson run side by side into turn one. Harvick gives a huge shove to Blaney off turn two. Blaney leads into turn three as Harvick gets loose and falls outside the top 5.

Lap 8, Hamlin has a run on Blaney into turn one and he side drafts him off turn two. Larson pushes on the bumper of Hamlin and Hamlin takes over the lead into turn three. Larson falls to 4th as he loses the nose.

Lap 25, Byron has climbed from the tail of the field to 9th. Truex Jr runs 18th for comparison of another car that started at the back.

Competition caution

Lap 26, the competition caution is out.

Hamlin and the rest of the leaders hit the pit lane. Kyle Busch wins the race to the pit exit.

Green, Hamlin and Kyle Busch run side by side for the lead into turn one and off turn two. A full lap later, they remain side by side. Hamlin finals clears him via the inside lane.

Lap 41, Kyle Busch bobbles over a bump in turn four. Larson has a run into turn one, Larson takes 2nd away.

Lap 44, Hamlin and Larson split lap traffic. They remain side by side into turn one, Larson to the lead on the bottom.

10 to go in stage one, Larson leads Kyle Busch by 2 seconds.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 80 (81-160 / 267)

Larson leads them to the pit lane. Hamlin wins the race to the pit exit.

Pit Penalty: Almirola will drop to the tail for equipment interference. Christopher Bell didn’t beat the pace car to the pit exit after damage repair, he’ll be a lap down.

Green flag on stage two, Hamlin gets the jump with a push from Ryan Blaney.

Lap 89, Larson has a run on Hamlin into turn one. Larson looks to the outside, Hamlin runs him up the track but Larson still completes the pass and retakes the lead.

Lap 92, Hamlin looks inside of Larson in the battle for the lead. Byron has a run on both of them into turn one. Three wide for the lead, Byron leads.

Lap 93, Joey Gase is hard in the wall after losing the left rear wheel. The caution is out.

Split pit strategy

Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Truex, Logano, Harvick and others hit the pit lane.

Green, Larson and Byron run side by side for th elead off turn two. Larson is pushed clear with help from Chase Elliott into turn three.

Lap 102, Elliott looks inside of Larson in the battle for the lead. Byron pushes on Larson, Larson holds the lead.

Lap 133, Elliott and Byron hit the pit lane. Slow stop for Byron and they take just two tires instead.

8 to go, Larson is low on fuel and he hits the pit lane. Hamlin is handed the race lead.

5 to go, Chase Elliott unlaps himself on Hamlin.

Denny Hamlin cruises to the win in stage two at LVMS! Byron finished in the that stage as the first car a lap down and will get the free pass. Larson, Blaney and others are trapped a lap down as this race is flipped upside down.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 107 (161-267 / 267)

Larson, Blaney and others stay out to get their lap back. Hamlin leads the leaders to the pit lane.

Green flag on stage three, Hamlin and Truex Jr run side by side into turn one. Truex Jr clears him in turn three to take the lead. Hamlin fights back to take the spot right back.

Lap 191, Hamlin leads Tyler Reddick by three lengths. Reddick is rolling the bottom and looking for the lead.

65 to go, Hamlin leads Reddick by 1.7 seconds. William Byron has climbed to 5th after being handed the free pass at the start of the stage. Larson is stuck in 19th with 6 laps older tires than most in the field.

Pit cycle

57 to go, green flag pit stops are underway as Kyle Busch hits the pit lane. Truex Jr follows a lap later.

54 to go, Larson Harvick and others hit the pit lane.

53 to go, Hamlin pits from the race lead. Bowman hits the pit lane for a second time with a loose wheel.

43 to go, Byron has a flat tire and he returns to the pit lane under green!

39 to go, Austin Dillon pits from the lead and Hamlin cycles back to the race lead. Elliott trails by 1 seconds.

20 to go, Hamlin leads Elliott by 1.8 seconds.

10 to go, Hamlin leads Elliott by 1.2 seconds.

4 to go, Hamlin leads Elliott by 0.6 seconds. Hamlin is exploring new lanes.

3 to go, Elliott runs against the outside wall in turn three and he makes up a ton of ground.

2 to go, Hamlin takes the high lane away in turn three and Elliott dives to the bottom.
