Bloomquist needed a win heading into tonight’s event. As Bloomquist had issues last night, Josh Richards ran 2nd. Further extending his championship lead.

The night started with Tim McCreadie setting the overall quick time. Bloomquist and McCreadie would start side-by-side in the first heat. However, Bloomquist took the lead early. He went on to win.

Darrell Lanigan won heat 2. Last nights winner, Earl Pearson Jr won heat 3. That was all the heats for tonight.

Gregg Satterlee was the fastest Group B Qualifier. However, he went out of bounds in his heat race.

Steve Francis, Hudson O’Neal and Gregg Satterlee entered turn 1 in their heat race, 3 wide. Steve Francis got into Hudson O’Neal, which pushed him way up the racetrack. Gregg Satterlee was the outside wall, Satterlee was pushed off the edge of the track.

Only 22 cars showed up to race for the $12,000 winners check. In turn, no B-Mains or 4th heat, per usual. Everyone made the feature and collected the starting money.

Green flag. The Lucas Oil dirt late model drivers slid their cars into turn 1. In 60 laps, someone’s going to leave Alabama with a heavy check. At the start, most of the field ran through the middle of the track.

The LOLMDS drivers quickly migrated to the outside line. They found themselves fighting for the last inch at the top of the racetrack. On the outside of that last inch, isn’t a wall. Instead it’s off camber banking, in the wrong direction. Nothing but a downward hill on the edge of the track line.

The cars streaked across the top of the race-track. Dirt late model in contrast with dark night skies. It was difficult to pass, though a slide job could get it done for several drivers. Or aggressively taking the outside lane away.

Scott Bloomquist pulled into the distance, passing lapped cars like they were sitting still. However, several other front row starters began dropping anchor.

As Lanigan started to fall, new names started climbing into the top spots. Jimmy Owens, started 5th, however, mid-way through the 60 lap race he was running 2nd and began chasing down Bloomquist.

Don O’Neal started 13th. However, he muscled his way well inside the top 10. The Clint Bowyer Racing #5 just needed to finish. They’ve been fast all year, running consistently inside the top 10. However, the #5 and #14 have just been caught in accidents, night after night.

As the race went on, the bottom began to come in. I’m unsure if the top just slicked over as drivers pushed the moister edge over the outer track limits. Or if the bottom dried out enough for it to become a competitive line, it was overly slick early on. Either way, it gave the drivers more options.

At this point Jimmy Owens began to lose his forward momentum. Bloomquist was now pulling away again. The track was looking more racey. However, the entire top 10 was widely spread out. So, even though the track starting forming multiple grooves, no driver was close enough to anyone to form a pass.

In the last 10 laps, the track had completely slicked over, top to bottom. It opened up the door for closing passes. However, the front of the field was already set. The race was outside the top 10.

Scott Bloomquist led flag to flag! Team Zero is the first to cross the finish line. Bloomquist and crew will stand in victory lane.

Climbing from his winning machine, Bloomquist joked “It’s been so long since we’ve won a race this year, maybe they felt sorry for me.”

Speaking on the track, “I think they did the right thing in watering the track before we went out. Everbody was going to go out there with a hard-right rear tire. I know some changed tires after they watered the track.”

Discussing his night, “The car worked really well in the heat race. The car was a little tight at the start of the feature, but it really was working freely for most of the race. Every time you come here, there’s something a little different with the track surface.”

How was the track in the feature? Bloomquist stated, “The track was about as slippery as I have seen it. The Penske Shocks we had on worked perfectly.”

Jimmy Owens held on for 2nd. Earl Pearson Jr continued his hot streak, finishing 3rd. Don O’Neal charged from his 13th place start to finish 4th. Tim McCreadie finished 5th.

Josh Richards started 12th in the main event. The championship points leader finished 11th. The points differential between Richards and Bloomquist is now just 30 points.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is at it again tomorrow. On April 2nd they will re-rack ’em at Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, TN.
