Eddie Gossage aids Harvick’s trolling efforts on the young rookies of NASCAR
Texas Motor Speedway is well known for their unique marketing campaigns over the years. As NASCAR roles into Texas for 2018, it’s no different.
Eddie Gossage and Texas Motor Speedway have created a tongue-n-cheek banner. It highlights all the young guns in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
Featured on the banner: Alex Bowman; William Byron; Chase Elliott; Ryan Blaney; Bubba Wallace; Daniel Suarez.
“It’s a cool promotion. I like the promotion,” Harvick says from the Texas Motor Speedway media center. “If you like marketing.”
“But, if you like winners, you go for the old guys.”
In the bottom corner of the banner there’s a word from the old guys: “In case anyone was wondering average age of the winners in the first six races 38.5 #OldGuysRule”
That’s a march 27th tweet from Kevin Harvick. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver wasn’t aware that his tweet was placed next to the banner. Be he’s happy to hear it.
“Oh is it?! I like it.”
“And look, I love every one of those kids on that poster. I think their all great for our sport.”
“I’m not taking personal digs at them. I’m trying to have as much fun with it — As I’ve told them, they should have fun with it too.”
“That’s really what it’s about. It’s the dad and the kids sitting in the grandstands from two different generations. They root for the old guys and you root for the young guys.”
“That’s great for our sport. It really is. It makes it fun to be able to have that banter back and forth — Most of those kids probably don’t even know who ‘New Kids on the Block’ are. I would venture to say that,” Harvick concludes.
“I took my kids to see new kids on the block, when it came out,” track promoter Eddie Gossage adds.
Kevin Harvick has won 3 of the 6 races so far. Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr and Austin Dillon are the other winners.
The rookies have shown some numbers as well. Unfortunately, those wins came in the pre-season races. Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott each won a Duel event at Daytona International Speedway. Those wins from the rookies came back in February. Alos, veteran driver Brad Keselowski won The Clash.
