NASCAR Cup Series starting lineup for the race on November 4th, 2018 at Texas Motor Speedway

UPDATE (Nov 4th, 2018): Several cars will drop the the rear of the field due to unapproved adjustments. Of those is Championship 4 contender Martin Truex Jr. The starting lineup has been updated to reflect the new starting order.

Tonight, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series takes to Texas Motor Speedway. It’s race number two for the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Playoffs.

Round 1
Texas Qualifying

15 minutes: Top 24 advance

Multiple teams are electing to take to the track early in round one of knockout qualifying. But, they aren’t making timed runs just yet. They’re taking a slow lap, just enough to scuff the tires.

Five minutes remain, Ryan Blaney sits at the top of the board with an average speed of 199.692. That’s knocking on the door of the track record.

Seconds remain in round one, David Ragan is around off turn four. That will end the session. He caught damage while sliding through the infield grass.

Ryan Blaney holds on to win the round. All 8 playoff drivers will advance to round two of Texas Motor Speedway qualifying.

10 minutes: Top 12 advance

Halfway, Joey Logano jumps to the top of the board. He’s the first driver in the 26 second bracket.

One minute remains, playoff drivers Aric Almirola and Chase Elliott are both outside of the cut line. Martin Truex Jr in on the bubble. Almirola bumps him! Truex is on track but the time isn’t quick enough. Truex and Elliott are eliminated from the final round.

Round 3
Texas Qualifying

5 minutes: Run for pole

Joey Logano is on track early. He messes it up in turn two. Logano shuts it down without completing a lap. He’ll return to the pits. The crew will hook up cooling hoses and he’ll make another run late in this round.

Ryan Blaney will take the pole at Texas Motor Speedway! It’s the second fastest time on a 1.5-mile track, ever. Kyle Busch’s time from last year still stands as the track record.

The race on Sunday will mark the eighth start at Texas Motor Speedway for driver Ryan Blaney. He has a best finish of 2nd which came in 2017. Blaney has an average finish of 9th at the Texas speedway. Blaney has one win so far in his 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.
