I’m not sure if we had a fight; But a knife was surely pulled as dirt track racing returns with a bang!
On May 2nd, 311 Motor Speedway opens the gates. The track is a 1/2-mile clay oval in Pine Hall, NC.
Watch the 311 confrontation videos below.
Fans were not allowed in the grandstands due to an order from the Governor. The pit gates were wide open and strong social distancing was highly encouraged within the competitors.
Tthe Sheetz Mod Tour was on deck. The race was shown digitally to race fans across the world.
Stephen Pedulla and Hank Taylor went side by side into turn one at the start of the 20-lap feature event. Pedulla pinched him a bit off turn four on lap one but this battle was far from over. To be continued…
Daniel Allen fire
On lap 4, the track became a road block at the start/finish line. Daniel Allen came into the scene with nowhere to go. He launched over a car and the car was engulfed in flames.
The driver climbed from the car and tumbled to the ground as fire safety crews extinguished the flames.
With 5 laps to go, Pedulla and Taylor remained side by side. This time, it’s for the race win. For the first time, Taylor moved to the race lead.
Lap traffic ahead, Taylor struggled to find a hole around the lap cars. Pedulla worked to his inside. They ran side by side off turn two.
Heading into turn three, they both caught lap traffic simultaneously. Pedulla attempted to force Taylor to run a higher line.
Instead, Taylor pinched him down. Pedulla had nowhere to go but into the back of the lap car. Taylor used the lap car a pick and confirmed the lead.
3 to go, more lap traffic for the race leader. This time, Taylor makes contact with the lap car. Padulla gets a run on him off turn two as a result.
Padulla drove it to the inside in turn three. Taylor pinched him down and Padulla locked up the brakes. Padulla then drove straight up the track and into the left rear of Taylor. (Padulla later said this was on purpose.)
They both spun. Andrew Durham was handed a gift. He was cruising to win on the final lap of the event. And… his wheel and tire came off in turn four! No caution!
In a thriller, Jeff Parsons drove it to the win!
Hank Taylor confronts Stephen Pedulla in the infield pit area
Hank Taylor drove his car to the infield after the spin with Pedulla. He was heated as he climbed from the car.
And, things escalated quickly. Taylor had located Pedulla and he was screaming his head off.
Padulla: “Why you gotta scream?”
Taylor: “Because you won’t fucking listen to me. I’m telling you.”
Padulla now took his turn at yelling: “I ain’t got to mother fucking listen to you. Yeah! You big headed boy. You little chicken shit.”
For such high intense yelling, they really were spacing it out evenly and giving each other a chance to speak. It was interesting.
Taylor: “Fucking, come on.”
Padulla: “I had a run on you going down the backstretch. You ran into my right rear fucking tire. I wrecked you. I drove right through you.”
At this point, Padulla walked away. But, the crews were just getting involved. As crew members began yelling at each other, a punch to the face was thrown by a guy wearing a Hank Taylor sweatshirt.
And then, another person wearing a Taylor shirt pulled a knife on somebody. She soon stuck it in someone else’s pocket, to conceal it. Not sure what the plan was for the knife to begin with.
But hey, dirt track racing is back!
