King’s Royal results from the the first of two $175,000 to win dirt races at Eldora Speedway

Next up, it’s the 38th annual King’s Royal at Eldora Speedway. The World of Outlaws are set to battle for $175,000 in the first feature event of the day.

After today’s race, the 38th annual King’s Royal is in the books. However, the field will line up again later tonight to begin the the 37th annual King’s Royal. Two King’s Royal’s in one day with $350,000 on the line.

This race originally began on Thursday, rain pushed everything from heat 2 on into this Saturday afternoon program.

Race Report

Green flag, Tyler Courtney gets the jump on the outside into turn one. Kerry Madsen spins off turn four and slides across the track on his own. Cory Eliason and Giovanni Scelzi slide into him and the caution is out already.

Green, Courtney leads Sweet into turn one as the dust clouds fly on a Saturday afternoon.

Lap 2, Sweet slides Courtney to take over the race lead.

Lap 4, Daryn Pittman runds 3rd but he has a huge smoke cloud behind him. It’s still running.

Lap 10, Sweet works heavy lap traffic. Courtney is closing the gap and glued to the cushion.

Lap 11, Sweet gets held up by lap traffic and Courtney crosses under him for the lead into turn one. Sweet crosses him back off turn two, Sweet retakes the lead.

Lap 19, Logan Schuchart slows. Seconds later, Lachlan McHugh blows a right rear and the caution is out.

Drama under the caution! Brad Sweet has a flat right rear and he heads to the pit lane, Courtney leads.

Halfway

— Officials have called for single file restarts for the rest of the race —

Green, Courtney launches with his right rear on the cushion and he’s clear of Gravel by six car lengths into turn one.

17 to go, Gravel has a look on Courtney. They run side by side but Courtney holds him off.

10 to go, the track has taken rubber and the leader has caught the tail of the field. The rubber is a lane off the outside wall and it’s slowly working lower and lower.

4 to go, Courtney leads Gravel by just two car lengths!

3 to go, Courtney leads by a car length.

2 to go, Gravel looks to the outside in turn three but he can’t complete the pass.

1 to go, Courtney runs the middle in turn three. Gravel looks to the top but he slides and Courtney opens the gap.
