Night one of the North/South 100 is in the books

Tonight, it’s night one of a three-day show on the half-mile dirt track of Florence Speedway. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series unloads in Union, Kentucky for North/South 100 weekend. Saturday’s finale pays $50,000 to win.

Kyle Bronson blew a tire in his heat race. Jonathan Davenport lost a driveshaft ahead of qualifying and then crashed in his heat race. Nick Hoffman also had heat race issues after qualifying 3rd in Group B. All those drivers were forced to a B-Main.

Tonight, the national dirt late model drivers battle for $10,000.

It’s a packed crowd of Kentucky dirt track fans. Lightning surrounds the race track in all angles, however, the rain has yet to fall.

Green flag, they run even into turn one. Thornton Jr gets the drive off the bottom and leads into turn three.

Lap 6, Thornton Jr to the cushion in turn one. Marlar drives it deep to the bottom. Side by side for the lead, Thornton Jr holds him off.

Lap 12, Stormy Scott slows and the caution is out.

Green, Thornton Jr leads. Overton takes 2nd away. Overton drives it deep on the outside of Thornton Jr into turn three and he wins the battle off turn four and completes the pass into turn one.

Josh Rice slows behind them, caution.

Marlar drives it deep to the inside of Thornton Jr for 2nd. They make light contact as they fight for space. Marlar has the spot.

Lap 15, Tim McCreadie is knocking the cushion and coming to the front behind them.

Lap 17, slow car, caution.

Green, Overton leads as Thornton Jr retakes 2nd.

McCreadie looks inside of Marlar for 3rd but can’t complete the pass.

Lap 21, Josh Richards slows, caution.

Green, Overton leads. Thornton Jr and Marlar slide each other and cross for 2nd. McCreadie sticks his nose in that battle, three wide for 2nd. Thornton Jr holds 2nd as McCreadie takes 3rd away.

Lap 30, Overton leads by 8 car lengths. Thornton Jr knocks the cushion as McCreadie rolls the bottom, lap after lap, side by side for 2nd.

Lap 35, Davenport has charged from the back of the field to 7th. He’s running lower than anyone, up over the inside berm in turn one.

10 to go, Overton has no trouble was lap traffic as he runs right through the middle.
