Indianapolis Race Results: August 14, 2021 (NASCAR Xfinity Series)

NASCAR results from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course

Next up, the NASCAR Xfinity Series takes the stage on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. It’s the Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard.

Sage Karam is making his NASCAR debut. Chase Elliott, Austin Dillon and Kevin Harvick are also in the field. Elliott wasn’t scheduled to race but he’s filling in the Michael Annett, who’s recovering from leg surgery.

Xfinity Indianapolis
Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 20 (1-20 / 62)

Green flag, Allmendinger gets the jump on the inside. Haley throws a big block on Ty Gibbs into turn one. Allmendinger runs wide out of turn one, Justin Haley drives right by and opens the gap.

Multiple cars jump a curb on the exit of turn six. Josh Bilicki and Alex Labbe tangle. They spin across the track, no caution.

Kevin Harvick and Brandon Jones both get pushed behind the wall following damage from the curb in turn 6. Harrison Burton has heavy nose damage as well.

Lap 2, the caution is out as Preston Pardus is stalled.

Restart

Green, Haley and Cindric run side by side into turn one. Haley wins the race into turn two.

Gibbs, Herbst and Gragson run three wide in turn 7. Gibbs wins that battle and takes 4th.

Lap 8, Ty Gibbs dives to the inside of Allgaier into turn one for 3rd. They run side by side through turn two. Gibbs finally completes the pass in turn three.

7 to go in stage one, Cindric is all over the back bumper of Haley in the battle for the lead. He leans on his bumper into turn 10 but can’t grab the spot.

6 to go, Cindric has a run on Haley into turn one. He dives to the inside and takes the spot in the braking zone, Cindric leads. Will Rodgers spins behind them, no caution.

5 to go, caution for debris as there’s metal in turn 14.

Most the field heads for the pit lane. Cindric wins the race to the pit exit but he’ll restart 8th. Herbst and Karam stay out with others, they’ll lead the restart.

Pit Penalty: Austin Dillon has been penalized for crew members over the wall too soon.

Green, Herbst wins the battle into turn one under braking. Jusrtin Haley quickly climbs to 2nd.

1 to go in stage one, Haley dives to the inside of Herbst and takes over the lead.

Justin Haley wins stage one!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 20 (21-40 / 62)

Green flag on stage two, Gragson takes Cindric and Haley three wide for the lead into turn one. Haley lifts, Cindric leads Gragson into turn two. Ty Gibbs spins behind them after contact with Daniel Hemric. Kris Wright goes full airborne over the curb but he keeps rolling.

Sam Mayer turns Chase Elliott in turn 7. Gibbs and Hemric head for the pit lane under green, he goes 1 lap down.

Lap 29, Austin Hill has stalled in turn 14 and the caution is out. Herbst heads to the pits to repair damage.

Restart

Green, Gragson outbrakes Cindric into turn one and takes over the lead. Allmendinger runs right on the door of Cindric and he takes 2nd away.

Allmendinger dives to the inside of Gragson in turn 7, Allmendinger to the lead.

Lap 34, Austin Dillon spins into turn one under braking, no caution.

3 to go in stage two, Cindric heads for the pit lane.

2 to go, Will Rodgers comes to a stop with a fire under his car. The caution is out.

Penalty: Moments after the yellow, Allgaier hit the pit lane. That’s a penalty and he’ll go to the tail.

AJ Allmendinger coasts to the stage win in stage two!

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 22 (41-62 / 62)

Most of the field hits the pit lane. Allmendinger wins the race to the pit exit but he restarts 11th. Ty Gibbs and Austin Cindric stay out with others and lead them to the restart.

Green flag on stage three, Gibbs is clear by a car length into turn one. Cindric holds 2nd.

18 to go, Cindric has a run on Gibbs into turn one. He pulls even and wins the race off the corner.

Chase Elliott and Sam Mayer run side by side in turn five. Elliott jumps the curb and runs Mayer wide off turn six. Mayer tries to turn and avoid the large curb outside of turn six. Instead, Mayer clips the grass and spins into the tire wall.

13 to go, Allmendinger has climbed to 2nd. Cindric leads by 3.6 seconds.

5 to go, Ty Gibbs pits as he’s low on fuel.
