Indianapolis qualifying results for the Indycar Series
Today, the NTT Indycar Series will set the starting grid via two rounds of knockout qualifying on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. They’re about to set the starting positions for the Indianapolis Grand Prix.

Round 1 – Group A
The field has been split into two groups for round one. The top 6 in each group advance into the next round. Each group has 10 minutes to set a time.
Cody Ware locks up into turn one.
4 minutes remain in Group A, Rinus VeeKay is off track.
1 minute remains, Will Power jumps to the top of the times sheet in Group A!

Round 1 – Group B
Group B is underway and Grosjean leads early.
4 minutes remain in Group B, teams are now returning to the pit lane for the softer red tires. Times will be dropping.
2 minutes remain, Jimmie Johnson jumps to 4th on the sheet!
1 minute remains, the tires are falling fast. Nearly everyone on track is running significantly faster than their previous laps. The track must be changing.
Scott Dixon clips the grass and spins! A local yellow is out.
Penalty: Dalton Kellett has been penalized for failure to reduce speed during local yellow.
Newgarden messed up on his final lap as he caught a slower car ahead.
Alexander Rossi wins Group B in round one!

The top 12 cars are now set to run for the pole position. Teams have 10 minutes to set a time.
Marcus Ericsson locks up his tires on his out lap.
6 minutes remain, Christian Lungaard jumps to the top of the board.
1 minute remains, Romain Grosjean sits at the top of the board. Many cars are on a flying lap.
30 seconds remain, Palou tops Grosjean, Gorsjean tops Palou once again and in the closing seconds Pato O’Ward to the top of the board!
Pato O’Ward will start from the pole position in the Indianapolis Grand Prix!
