On lap 1, Drew Dollar got loose under Thad Moffitt. As he chased it up the banking, Moffitt was collected. Both cars slammed the outside wall.

No caution was displayed. Both cars were able to limp to the pit lane. Each went under lengthy repairs but were essentially out of the race.

But, they weren’t done messing with each other. On lap 23, 20-year-old Thad Moffitt found Drew Dollar on the track. While laps down, Moffitt drove into the left rear of Dollar and turned him around.

Moffitt backed up up the banking and slammed the wall. Tim Richmond came into the scene with nowhere to go and drove right into the door of Dollar.

Dollar and Richmond both got a tow to the garage area and were officially done for the day.

Tim Richmond injured in crash

ARCA team owner Alex Clubb posted an update on his Clubb Motorsports driver via social media:

Clubb stated, “We have some sad news to announce Tim Richmond is out indefinitely he has a broken tibia and fractured ankle. We have to wait for the swelling to go down to see what the next move is for surgery. We will release more information when we can. This is another big hit for RCM.”

Tim Richmond commented via social media, “Thank you everyone for the wishes and prayers as you know was involved in an accident yesterday at Michigan Speedway.”

Richmond added, “Our car is completely destroyed and walking away with just small cut on hand plus broken tibia and fractured ankle Glad that is all but definitely a hard impact on our small team after all the hard work to get cars to the track and fact that I will most likely be done for the season.”

“I think it’s pretty obvious what happened there,” Drew Dollar told NBC Sports from the garage area during the race.

“The #46 just wrecked us. We honestly owed him one after the first lap. Then, he wrecked us for no reason, pretty much.”

“Just desperate by the #46. He races desperate, I think he’s just lost out there.”

“Just really bummed for this crew. We were going to run 2nd, at worst. Unfortunately, got taken out by a really desperate driver.”

“It’s killed. This was going to be a good car at Kansas. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to go to a different race car. It’s unfortunate for my team and Tim Richmond’s team as well.”

“We’ve got two really torn up race cars, for no reason. Just because we got a kid out there, who honestly, shouldn’t be out there.”

Dollar concluded, “I’m sure we’ll get to talk to him later. Hopefully, he wants to talk. Lets just hope that.”
