Indycar race results from the Detroit Grand Prix

Today, the Indycar Series unloads in Belle Isle Park for the final time as the race will be moved into the city next year. They’re set for the Detroit Grand Prix for the Indycar Series.

Green flag, Newgarden is clear before the flagstand. Half the field is lagging way back as they get a slow jump.

Lap 2, Graham Rahal brushed the wall off turn two. He slows and heads for the pit lane under green.

Lap 4, Rinus VeeKay hits the pit lane for the primary tires.

Lap 10, Sato has dropped through the field. Now he heads to the pit lane from 7th as he’s on a 3 stop strategy.

Lap 13, Power has run down the bumper of Newgarden. Power drives right by on the inside as Power follows him through. Power, Dixon and Palou are on the harder tire. Newgarden’s softer tires are going away.

Lap 18, Scott McLaughlin spins in turn three. He struggles to find reverse and loses several seconds.

Lap 19, Newgarden pits from 6th. He goes from the soft to the hard tire.

Lap 25

Lap 25, Power pits from the race lead. They put on the hard tire once more. Dixon and Palou pit on the next lap, Power cycles right back to the lead. Dixon goes for the softer tire.

Lap 30, Power leads Dixon by 3 seconds.

Lap 40, he’s opening the gap. Power leads Dixon by 14 seconds.

Lap 45, Dixon pits from 2nd. He installs the harder tire and he should be done with stops. Newgarden also pits.

Kyle Kirkwood brushes the wall. He was running in the top 5.

Lap 50, Power leads Rossi by 44 seconds. Power heads for the pit lane, he puts on the softer tire.

Lap 52, Will Power leads Alexander Rossi by 16 seconds. Power is on the softer tire, Rossi and Dixon are on the hard tire.

15 to go

15 to go, Power leads Rossi by 12 seconds.

7 to go, Power leads Rossi by 10 seconds. Power’s tires are going away but he’s managed them so well at the beginning of this run that they aren’t falling off as hard as others did earlier in the race.

3 to go, Power struggles with lap traffic. Rossi trails by 6 seconds.

1 to go, Dixon leads Rossi by 2.5 seconds. Rossi is closing fast but he’s running out of time.

Will Power holds him off and wins at Belle Isle Park!
