Clements won at Daytona but was disqualified from a Playoff run; NASACR team wins appeal

Jeremy Clements Racing was handed a penalty after winning at Daytona International Speedway. With the win, he qualified for the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs.

However, in post race inspection at Daytona, NASCAR found the No. 51 in violation. In the NASCAR release, they noted two violations section 14.6.12K & U.

With the penalty, the team was removed from the NASCAR Playoffs, despite the win officially counting. Additionally, crew chief Mark Setzer was fined $60,000 and the team was assessed the loss of 75 owner points, 75 driver points and 10 playoff points should it still qualify for the postseason.

Violation of 14.6.12K&U:

Section 14.6.12K: The rule states that the intake manifold must conform to NASCAR templates, gauges, scales, fixtures and any and all other measuring devices.

Section 14.6.12U: notes the floor of the intake manifold plenum must conform to the NASCAR Inspection Intake Manifold Plenum Plug Gauge.

NASCAR penalty reversed

The next day, Jeremy Clements Racing announced their intention to appeal the penalty. Penalties are rarely overturned but it does happen from time to time.

On Tuesday, the National Motorsports Appeals Panel heard their case.

They have ruled in favor of the team. All penalties have been removed.

This weekend, NASCAR returns to Bristol Motor Speedway. It’s the regular-season finale for the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
