Daytona 500 Qualifying Results: February 2023 (NASCAR)

There’s no qualifying practice, cars are set to touch the track for the first time. Each car will turn just one timed lap in round one. The top 10 advance into a second round where they’ll run another lap with times reset.

Front Row Set : The top two qualifiers are guaranteed to start on the front row for the famed Daytona 500.

The field will be divided into two groups based on qualifying times. Each group will have their own Duel race and their finishing position in the Duels will be used to set positions 3-40 in the Daytona 500 starting grid.

Two Open Cars Locked In : 36 cars are locked into the Daytona 500 via the charter system. Six open (non-charter) cars are battling for the remaining four spots on the grid. Two of those six will lock into the grid for the Daytona 500 out of qualifying, the top 2 in speed. The rest of the six will battle for the last spot in each of the two duel races.

Non Charter Teams : Jimmie Johnson, Travis Pastrana, Chandler Smith, Zane Smith, Conor Daly and Austin Hill

Johnson is back for his first official session since his retirement in 2020. He’s here to run a part-time schedule with his co-owned Legacy Motor Club team.

Many times failed pre-qualifying inspection, multiple times. NASCAR modified the penalties for violations as they discovered an OSS inspection error after more than half the field failed inspection.

Conor Daly and the No. 50 team has an electrical issue. That caused a hole in the oil line and he was unable to pass inspection or take part in qualifying.

Chandler Smith was the first car to touch the track. However, he stalled within feet of the pit lane. Smith pulled back to the pits, the team made quick repairs and he was able to return to the track.

The top 10 from round one advance into the second round of qualifying. The top 10 cars make another run for the pole position in the Daytona 500.
