10 minutes into practice, Indycar rookie Benjamin Pedersen lockes up under braking. He over corrected and stuff the nose into the barrier.
25 minutes into the practice, a part of the track has begun coming up. Officials went to work to patch the asphalt with little time lost in the session.
30 minutes in, Simon Pagenaud locks up, spins and stalls the car. At the same time, Scott McLaughlin brushes the wall on the outside of the track. McLaughlin picked up minor right rear damage.
50 minutes in, Benjamin Pedersen suffers more issues. He locked up and run into the runoff area. The driver struggles to find reverse and needs assistance to rotate the car back in the correct direction.
1 hour into the session, Christian Lundgaard gets loose and slaps the outside wall with his right side. It’s a fairly significant impact but he was able to might it back to the pit lane.
Moments later, Josef Newgarden brushes the wall.
10 minutes remain in the session, Graham Rahal becomes the latest driver to lockup under braking. He spins but he’s able to drive it back to the pits.
Drivers are saying that multiple areas of the track were repaved and those areas have created new bumps. The bumps are causing the lockups and spins.
With 1 minute remaining in the session, Scott Dixon jumped to the top of the board. He wins practice for the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
