Chandler Smith linked to a contract buyout

Joe Gibbs Racing is throwing a chicane in NASCAR’s silly season

In 2022, Chandler Smith was running full time for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the NASCAR Truck Series. He claimed two wins that year and finished 3rd in the standings.

Smith has long been a part of the Toyota pipeline. He’s climbed the ranks with Toyota from Late Models, ARCA, Trucks and Xfinity.

For the 2023 season, Smith made the move to Kaulig Racing. He’s currently running full time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and part-time in the Cup Series, both in Kaulig entries.

Kaulig is a Chevrolet backed organization.

Smith was signed to race for Kaulig in a multi-year deal. He signed in 2022 to a 3 year contract.

However, it appears that actually won’t happen.

Smith is now tied to a deal with Joe Gibbs Racing for 2024 according to Sportsnaut. With a contract already signed, a contract buyout is required. Two years remain on the contract.

It’s been reported that Smith will finalize a deal with Joe Gibbs Racing next week.

This weekend, NASCAR is racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Chandler Smith remains in the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff battle.
