The legendary dirt late model driver passed in a plane crash on his property
Open the whisky, it’s a miserable day.
Scott Bloomquist was a legendary dirt racer with a hell of a personality. The Tennessee based driver won four Hav-A-Tampa Series titles, three Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championships a World of Outlaws title and an Xtreme DIRTcar Series championship.
His mechanical ingenuity put officials to work. With 600 career victories from one end of the country to the other, Bloomquist placed his footprint in the dirt of every region.
There was nobody else in the pit area like him. He was honest, to a fault. In my personal top-5 interviews I’ve ever done, he holds at least three of them. But it was on me to figure out if he was jumbling me around or not.
From a fans perspective, you either loved to cheer for him or loved to see him lose but either way the hippie in the #0 car brought you to the race track.
On Friday, Bloomquist passed in a plane crash on his family farm in Tennessee. He was flying a single-engine Piper J-3 plane when it crashed into a barn.
He was 60 years old.
