Tyler Courtney transported after crash at Eldora Speedway (Video)

Eldora Speedway opens the dirt sprint car feature with a huge crash on lap 1

On Thursday night, Eldora Speedway hosted High Limit Racing. The finale of the Joker’s Jackpot event paid $100,000 to win.

On lap 1 and turn one of the 40 lap race, there was a huge crash. Five cars ended up upside down.

Those drivers were Hunter Schuerenberg, Brad Sweet, Brady Bacon, Bill Balog, Buddy Kofoid and Tyler Courtney.

All of the drivers climbed from their cars.

However, the No. 7BC Tyler Courtney was transported for further evaluation. He was communicating with the safety team.

High Limit Racing confirmed as they stated, “Tyler Courtney was extracted and communicating with officials after the opening lap crash. He will be transported for further evaluation.”

Courtney was turned. The car flipped just before impact with the wall and the fence. He hit the wall, wing first.

Courtney then bounced across down the banking of the track. While upside down, he was clipped by Hunter Schuerenberg who had nowhere to go.

Medical Update: Friday Morning

Tyler Courtney drives for Clauson Marshall Racing. The team shared the following update:

“Tyler is alert and able to move is extremities,” the update opened.

“We appreciate all the outreach and will continue to update as we learn more. Thank you for all of the positive support.”

The update was given to the team by Tyler’s fiancee Aysia.

Medical Update: Friday night

On Friday night, Tyler’s fiancee posted another update:

“Tyler is out of surgery and is in post-op recovery,” the statement from Aysia opened.

“Doctors are pleased with the results and expect a full recovery over the next few months. Please keep the positive thoughts coming, as we still do have a long journey ahead of us.”

“Tyler of course is ready to get back on the track!”

“Thank you all for your support. We appreciate it very much!”

Update: Monday afternoon

The team provided the following update:

“We are happy to report that Tyler Courtney had successful back surgery for an injury that occurred at Eldora Speedway on July 17th,” the statement opened.

“Although the injury will take some time to heal, we expect a full recovery and can’t wait to have Tyler back in the NOS Energy 7BC once he has fully healed.”

“Our plans for remainder of the 2025 season:”

“Lernerville Speedway on 7-22-25: Cole Duncan will drive the NOS Energy 7BC.”

“For the remainder of the 2025 season, Gio Scelzi will drive the NOS Energy 7BC.”

“Thank you for all the messages of support and especially your patience as we gained a full understanding of Tyler’s injury and went through the process of putting the pieces together for the remainder of the season.”

“We also want to send our thoughts and prayers to Aaron, Brad and Kalib as they heal up from their injuries that occurred this past week.”
