Wind tornado?
Today, the NASCAR Cup Series is racing in Watkins Glen, New York. There was an odd incident during the event at Watkins Glen International.
Watch the video below.
On lap 40 of 100, NASCAR was forced to throw the caution. A canopy was lifted from the campground area of the speedway.
The canopy went way into the air. It landed back on the infield but was lifted once more. It was sent over the fence and on to the racetrack.
Clint Bowyer asked, “What’s that Kevin?”
“That was like one of those wins tornados went through there,” Bowyer added.
NASCAR drivers comment
Austin Dillon (No. 3 driver) stated over the team radio, “There like a mini tornado going on here, and it was picking up everything in its sight. It picked up two tents and threw one on the track.”
Zane Smith (No. 38 driver) added, “Dude, it was huge. It was throwing (explitive) all over the place on the back stretch. Gnarly.”
Tyler Reddick (No. 45 driver) stated, “Bo, do you see this tornado in the infield?” The team responded, “Yeah, I’m watching it from the top of the esses. There a tent that’s flying.”
The race is currently ongoing.
Update: The race has since concluded.
