Race Report
Green flag, Power is clear into turn one. Ryan Hunter-Reay makes it four wide on the outside deeper in the field. He passes five cars in one corner!
Lap 42, Colton Herta hits the pit lane. The crew is struggling to get the right front wheel off and he’ll go several laps down after a 43 second pit stop.
Lap 65, Will Power cycles back to the lead as the first green flag cycle is complete. McLaughlin trails by 2 seconds.
Lap 89, McLaughlin is on the bumper of Power in the battle for the lead. He dives inside into turn one but McLaughlin gets boxed behind lap traffic and he can’t complete the pass.
Lap 100, Josef Newgarden works by McLaughlin to take over 2nd.
Lap 121, Power gets loose on the outside of turn one. Newgarden dives inside of Power into turn one. They nearly rub wheels off turn two. Power lifts and Newgarden takes over the race lead.
Lap 152, Graham Rahal gets tight and he slaps the wall off turn four. The caution is out.
Green, Newgarden leads McLaughlin and O’Ward into turn one.
50 to go, Newgarden leads McLaughlin by 3.5 seconds.
Pit Penalty: Benjamin Pedersen has been handed an unsafe release penalty.
40 to go, the final pit cycle is complete. Newgarden leads McLaughlin by 5 seconds.
20 to go, Newgarden leads McLaughlin by 3 seconds. 8 cars remain on the lead lap.
10 to go, Newgarden is pacing the field and slicing through lap traffic.
