Kurt Busch took the pole in record time. 85 laps in stage 1 and stage 2 followed by 164 laps in stage 3. Ku Busch and Denny Hamlin lead the field to green in the 334 lap race.

Stage 1

Green flag, Denny Hamlin makes the outside lane work in turn 1. That didn’t happen too often in the Xfinity race last night. Trouble, Kyle Busch wiggles off the bottom and up the banking. Keselowski anticipated it, giving room to the #18. However, Kyle Busch still clipped Keselowski in the left rear.

No spin, but both cars have damage. Brad Keselowski has a flat tire, the valve stem was torn out. Kyle Busch suffered the most damage, he has a hole in his right front fender. Both cars hit pit lane under green.

Lap 11, Chase Elliott is up to 19th. He started 34th after failing to make it out of pre-qualifying inspection in time to turn a qualifying lap. At the start of today’s race, Chase Elliott is last of the remaining playoff drivers.

Kyle Larson is coming. Erik Jones was looking under a lapper down the back stretch. Larson got a run, he took the inside lane away as they went 3 wide down the back. Larson is chasing down Denny Hamlin.

Lap 47, Denny Hamlin takes a wide entry to turn 3. I’m not sure if he missed the corner or if he just let Larson go by. Either way, new leader, Kyle Larson.

Lap 53, green flag pit stops have begun. Martin Truex Jr gets the cycle started. Denny Hamlin gets stuck in his box. The right rear of Kurt Busch was sticking out, blocking Hamlin from an easy exit, slow exit.

Lap 60, Michael McDowell remains on the track. They are hoping for a caution. He hits pit lane. Ryan Newman assumes the lead. Newman pits and the cycle is complete. Kyle Larson is back to the lead by .5 seconds over Kevin Harvick and Truex.

Larson is 16 inches off the bottom in turns 1&2. Harvick is glued to the white line and closing fast. Harvick has a run. He pulls to the inside down the back and takes the inside line away going into turn 3. New leader at Texas, Kevin Harvick.

6 to go in stage 1, Harvick leads Truex by .5 seconds. Larson has fallen.

Kevin Harvick wins stage 1 at Texas Motor Speedway. Chase Elliott climbed to 11th.

Green, Hamlin takes the lead in turn 1. Harvick has run off the corner. Hamlin misses turn 3, he goes way up the banking into the 3rd lane. The field goes by as Hamlin is sideways trying to get the power down on the dirt side of the track.

Trouble at the back. Daniel Suarez gets sideways. He climbs up the hill and into Kasey Kahne. Kahne stands on the gas, wheels turned to the right. Sideways like a sprint car but he saves it from smashing the wall! Suarez goes around. Caution. Brad Keselowski gets the free pass.

Green, side by side through 1-2. Larson on the high side, Harvick on the bottom. Even down the back and even into turn 3. Larson makes it work! Harvick lifts and Larson takes the lead. Truex tried the same thing behind him, Truex got loose.

Chase Elliott got loose off turn 2. Hamlin forced his way to the inside, inches between them. Hamlin takes Chase 3 wide down the back. Last week, Hamlin wrecked Chase Elliott for the lead at Martinsville.

28 to go in stage 2, Joey Logano hit pit road. The pit cycle has begun. Logano, too fast on pit road, penalty. Kenseth assumes the lead by 10 seconds over Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Kenseth pits, Dale Earnhardt Jr takes the lead with 14 laps to go in stage 2. Jr hits pit road, handing the lead to Kasey Kahne who also hasn’t pitted. Larson is 2nd. Kahne to the box, Larson to the lead.

Kyle Larson wins stage 2.

Stage 2 Results: 1. Kyle Larson; 2. Kevin Harvick; 3. Ryan Blaney; 4. Martin Truex Jr; 5. Chase Elliott; 6. Denny Hamlin; 7. Kurt Busch; 8. Matt Kenseth; 9. Erik Jones; 10. Austin Dillon;

Stage 3

Kenseth stayed out. Truex takes two tires. He leads off pit road. Kevin Harvick was the first car off pit road with 4, he will restart 2nd. Denny Hamlin has a loose wheel toward the end of stage 2. Hamlin radio, “We gotta work on these guns. We cannot afford a loose wheel today.”

Green, Kenseth and Truex lead the field to green. Even into turn 1, even down the back. Kenseth holds the lead with tires that are 20 laps older. Caution. Landon Cassill is up the banking with help from Clint Bowyer.

They made contact entering turn 1. Cassill might have let out of the throttle to let him by. Bowyer barely clipped him. Kyle Busch gets the free pass, he’s back on the lead lap.

Green, side by side through turn 1. This time, Truex is back in the throttle. He pinches down on Matt Kenseth. Truex takes the lead on the outside.

Lap 225, Matt Kenseth hits pit road. He was the only car that didn’t pit on the last cycle. Martin Truex Jr pits on the next lap. Kurt Busch returns to pit road, loose wheel. Michael McDowell is around, he missed the groove on entry, caution. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano had yet to pit.

9 cars are on the lead lap. Nearly the whole field will take the wave around.

Green, Truex and Matt Kenseth are on the front row again. Truex to the lead on the outside. Kenseth takes it back! Kenseth to the lead. Torn fender and all, Kyle Busch is hanging with them. Logano gets loose under Busch and nearly clips him. Ray Black II is around, caution.

Dale Earnhardt Jr is in the garage. The crew is working to get him back on track, he’s not on the 5 min clock, it’s a mechanical break. Jr states from the garage, “We burnt up on the left front hub.”

Green, Truex to the lead on the outside. Kenseth side drafts on the exit, pulling Truex back a bit. Truex confirms the position in turn 3.

Ryan Blaney is loose. Blaney is out of the groove, tires smoking.

Everybody slowed down to avoid it, except Denny Hamlin. The #11 drives to the apron and passes several cars. Erik Jones pinches him down the back then turns right just before the corner, the quick turn to the right leaves tire marks as his hands saw on the steering wheel.

Lap 270, Ray Black II is around. Caution. Kurt Busch gets the free pass. Hamlin, Logano and Kahne take 2 tires.

Green, Logano to the lead on the high side in turn 1. Hamlin gets a run on the bottom. Hamlin to the lead in turn 3, he drives from the bottom lane and slides up a lane. But, Hamlin doesn’t loose any ground. Kyle Busch has a flat tire, no caution.

52 to go, Kyle Larson is in the wall. He clipped the wall with the right rear off turn 4. Then, he drove into turn 1, the backend came around. He might have had a tire going down or he just spun after knocking off the rear spoiler and killing the side force with the first incident. Red flag.

Green, Truex takes the lead on the outside in turn 1. The outside is the place to be on restarts, at least from the front row. Top 10 are single file. 3 wide for 10th.

30 to go, Kevin Harvick is all over Hamlin for 2nd as Truex drives away. Harvick to the bottom, he’s there. Harvick takes the position. Truex leads by 1.4 seconds.

24 to go, lead delta is down to just .8 seconds. Truex is about to catch a group of lappers. They let him by down the front stretch but Harvick is there! 20 to go, .3 seconds.

Truex responds by changing his line. Cole Pearn told him to pinch the white line. Truex is now running the Harvick line, right on the white line. Both cars miss the corner, Harvick looses 5 car lengths.

10 to go, Harvick is back to the bumper. Truex overdrives the entry, the backend tried to come around, he gets loose, Harvick drives to the outside. Harvick takes the lead on the outside of turn 2. No contact.
