Joe Gibbs Racing transfers management of NASCAR crew members to Furniture Row Racing
Joe Gibbs Racing has transferred crew management to Furniture Row Racing.
In the past, Joe Gibbs Racing was in charge of both training and management of the Furniture Row Racing crew. That’s part of the vast technical alliance the two Toyota teams share. They supplied the crew for the #78 and #77.
It became a conflict of interest. At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr wrecked each other while battling for the lead. Shortly after, the two crews were involved in a confrontation. A whole lot of name calling and finger pointing took place.
Essentially, it was members of opposing crews in an argument. An awkward moment for JGR and FRR as both crew were managed by Joe Gibbs. It was bascally the same team fighting with itself.
After that altercation, Joe Gibbs Racing suspended several members of the Furniture Row Racing crew. FRR had no say in the matter. They politely accepted the suspensions handed to their own team by a competing team.
Furniture Row Racing statement: “Our No. 78 pit crew is hired, trained and managed by Joe Gibbs Racing,” said Furniture Row Racing team owner Barney Visser.
Now, management has been transferred to Furniture Row. JGR will continue to train Furniture Row racing crew members in-house. However, once installed on the Denver team, Joe Gibbs will no longer have any control of those members.
Those suspended crew members will return to the track this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.
