It’s another 75 minute session for the NASCAR Cup Series. Clint Bowyer won the opening round of practice. He’s on the track early and looking to repeat.
10 minutes in, there’s two issues on the track at the same time. William Byron is smoking and Kyle Larson is as well. Byron might have cooked a rear end and it appears Larson has brake issues.
10 minutes remaining in the session, Martin Truex Jr is all over the back bumper of Bubba Wallace off turn 7 and into turn 8. Wallace is struggling, he lets off and Truex runs into the back of him.
“I don’t know what the hell he was doing. He was gonna go. Then, he just let off the gas for no reason,” Truex Jr radio.
Both cars were able to keep it straight. They rolled back to the pits. Truex is 3rd on the board, Wallace is 32nd.
McDowell and Kliggerman are upset with each other heading to pit road. They are near stopped as cars come into turn 11 at full speed. McDowell was forcing Kliggerman to the right side of the track.
At the last second, McDowell darts back across the track and hits the pit lane. Kliggerman crawled across the track to get to the pits as well. A pack of cars darted right and left to avoid him.
Kurt Busch wins final practice at Sonoma. Stewart-Haas has 3 cars in the 10 lap average.
Tomorrow, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will line them up for qualifying.
